British pattern 1855 bayonet made
for the Lancaster 'oval bore' carbine in stunning condition. 24" pipe
backed bright steel blade (unsharpened) with no pitting just a couple of
light marks on one side. Top of blade near cross-guard is marked Crown
over BR over 26. One side of the Ricasso is marked B over 78 with the
makers name 'Chavasse' on the other. This is most probably Horace Chavasse of
Birmingham. Brass cross-guard and pommel with a nice patina. Very good
leather grips showing no signs of shrinkage. The scabbard is in very
good condition with both brass Locket and Chape retaining a superb
patina and being stamped with numbers matching the bayonet (Crown over
BR over 26). The scabbard leather is also in super condition with all
stitching intact and bearing clear stamps including the matching number
and a broad arrow over WD. This is by far the best Lancaster 1855
bayonet I have ever seen. |
